Soap Butters Are Wonderful

Oh, butter. You are so creamy and decadent!
Knowing this, we use different kinds of soap butters in nearly all our soaps at Lake Superior Soap Co. to give your skin some extra love. Here are a couple of our favorite butters!

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter comes from, not surprisingly, the cocoa bean. We loooove that our cocoa butter retains its chocolatey scent. It’s so wonderful paired with mint or coffee! Used regularly, the antioxidants in cocoa butter will help lighten age spots, even out uneven skin tones, and reduce scars. It is great to soften and deep-condition your skin, and some people have found success in easing skin irritations like eczema.

Cocoa butter is also full of fatty acids, including oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, which create a barrier between your skin and the environment. This not only keeps your skin protected from free radicals but also helps keep it moisturized. Not only that, but it acts as a mild sunscreen, keeping your skin from aging as quickly. (But please, do continue to use sunscreen!)

Shea Butter

Shea butter comes from the fat of the African shea tree’s nuts. Softer than cocoa and mango butter, but firmer than avocado, this is another favorite in our soaps. In fact, we use it in nearly all of them.
Like other butters, shea butter forms a moisture barrier on your skin, keeping it moisturized and protecting it from UV rays. Shea butter is mostly oleic acid and stearic acid. The high level of these fatty acids in shea butter is one of the reasons that it absorbs easily into the deeper layers of your skin. One of the reasons for wrinkles, along with a loss of collagen from aging and sun exposure, is dehydration. With regular use, shea butter helps to restore hydration and smooth out your skin. But don’t forget to drink lots of water too!
And, as a bonus, shea butter is non-comedogenic; it won’t clog your pores so you can safely use it on your face.

Want more butter-wonderful soaps? Check out our soaps with mango butter and avocado butter! Like their other butter cousins, these butters help smooth, moisturize, and protect your skin. It’s no wonder we love them so much!

  1. Have you thought about making travel shampoo bars. I have been shopping the internet for shampoo bars and am frustrated with my choices. There are several brands and types to choose from, but poor descriptions of these various bars don’t help me make a decision of which to buy. Your web site is well designed and straightforward, please think about adding a line of bar shampoo for dry, oily, normal, and colored hair. Thank you for your consideration .

Yes, I have been thinking about it. Do you have fragrances in mind. I will work on a recipe for your needs and get back to you when I have a nice combination.
      Thank you for your inquiry.
